Dr Pantelis SoupiosCPG Scientific Expedition to Empty Quarter, Saudi Arabia
College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences conducted a scientific expedition to the Wabar Meteorite Impact Site, Umm Al-Hadid, Empty Quarter, Saudi Arabia, from 11th – 14th December, 2019. The goals of the expedition were:
– Map the extent of the impact structures using geophysical and geological techniques to better understand the impact processes, nature and origin of these structures
– Study the chemical characteristics and minerals that resulted from the impact
– Improve the understanding of the interaction between cosmic bodies and the Earth

CPG 2nd Scientific Expedition to Empty Quarter
College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences conducted its second scientific expedition to the Wabar Meteorite impact site, Umm Al-Hadid – Empty Quarter, February 24-27, 2020.
The objective of this second expedition was to conduct ground-truthing of a series of deep and shallow anomalies identified from measurements made during the first expedition (December 11- 14, 2019); as well as acquire more measurements in areas that were not covered during the first trip.
